AUSTIN, TX, March 11, 2013 – During SXSW, between March 11 and 15, David Flores will be painting before a live audience each day from 9am-6pm, at Division One Bicycles.
Flores has been commissioned to paint a mural on the exterior of the East Side’s newest bicycle shop, Division One. Division One is an upscale bicycle sales and service outlet who opened its doors to the public just a few weeks ago. Flores’ mural will put the finishing touches on the bicycle shop for its grand opening.
Flores is a standout in the graphic arts world and is well known in the skate/bike/snowboard communities. He has been featured as a character on the Simpsons, and his work has been inducted into the MOMA NYC permanent collection. Flores developed his own unmistakable style known as “stained glass” to create his art, which often includes iconic images from artists like Salvador Dali to depictions of Mickey Mouse. His artwork includes toy and clothing design, sculpting, and painting; many of his murals can be found on the streets of Los Angeles.
David Flores began his career as an illustrator for skateboard companies and was internationally published by the age of 20. Throughout the 90s he contributed graphic artwork to companies such as Anti Hero, Powell Peralta, Spitfire Wheels, and Lucky Bearing creating art and graphics that are still used today. Flores has collaborated with commercial enterprises such as Disney, Stussey, and Oakley; more recently Flores is working with FLIP skateboards and Akomplice Clothing.
